CALGARY, AB. Aug. 10, 2012- One of the largest heavy oil producers in Canada has selected Tundra Process Solutions to provide the steam generation and produced water evaporation system for oilsands assets in Northern Alberta. Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies and Cleaver Brooks continue their successful cooperation to supply Tundra’s first ever water and steam service combination in the Alberta Marketplace. The evaporation system will treat de-oiled produced water from the 40,000 bbl/day oilsands operation.

The system is designed to provide clean distillate to the steam generation system for the SAGD (Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage) process. This offers Silica Sorption™ technology, a technique used for treating produced water operating at a lower pH than the conventional high pH evaporation systems. When operating the evaporators at a lower pH, it dramatically reduces chemical consumption and more importantly, allows simpler handling and flexible disposal options of the resulting concentrate. This Process also integrates the HPD Vapor Washer technology which eliminates the risk of foam carryover into the evaporator distillate produced (to be used as Cleaver Brooks steam generator feed water).
